Cecilio’s Secret

This piece was created as a tribute to the pottery of Granda, to the legacy of Cecilio Morales, whose heritage was nearly lost—a story that repeats itself. The story behind this piece is a fantasy I want to share with you: «Cecilio had a private room in his ceramics factory, just for him. No one else could enter, as Cecilio was the only one with the key to that door. In this room, he would spend a few hours whenever he could steal some time from the other obligations imposed by his clients’ orders. Cecilio created pieces here that he didn’t share with anyone; it was his refuge. On one of his seven-year-old granddaughter’s visits to the workshop, Cecilio explained to her that there are many types of stars, and that there is one in particular with eight points, the same number as the years his extraordinarily beautiful granddaughter would be turning in a few months. Then, taking a piece of clay for himself and another for his granddaughter, they created an eight-pointed star with their hands. Cecilio left this star in his private place. The next day, upon seeing the star, he felt a desire to create a ceramic piece that would surround it.» star, just like the creation of the Alhambra or the walls that once protected the cities he knew so well. Cecilio began creating this piece in his secret space. In the center, he placed the star he had created with his granddaughter, and on the outside, he would demonstrate in this piece what he felt for her and for the ceramic tradition that had accompanied him for so many years. The Star of Solomon, or Star of Regeneration, also known as the Octagram, the eight-pointed star, is an ancient symbol that has been used by many civilizations for various purposes throughout history. Hindus, Buddhists, Chinese, Babylonians, Native Americans, Christians, and Muslims all used this symbol, one of the most mysterious and captivating. In the Tartessian culture (of ancient Iberia), it symbolizes fullness and regeneration. The Egyptians associated it with the star Sirius, the central sun of the galaxy. For the Babylonians, it symbolized Ishtar (Venus), the goddess of fertility and rain, and for a civilization as distant as the Maya, it held the same symbolism. Piece ready to ship.
